Terms of Service

1. About these terms

These terms govern use of meisan (the "Service"), available at meisan.ai. By creating an account or using the Service you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

meisan is operated by MEISAN AI LTD, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17331713) with its registered office at 124 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX (the "Operator"), contactable at hello@meisan.ai. The laws of England and Wales govern these terms and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.

2. What meisan is

meisan is an entertainment platform for adults who want to write or read fictional roleplay, have conversations with fictional companion characters, or co-author stories with AI. All characters are fictional, and all output is AI-generated fiction. meisan is text-only: it does not generate images, video, or audio. Characters must not be based on real people — see the acceptable use policy below.

Generative AI produces the responses. Output is not reviewed by a human before you see it. Output can be inaccurate, biased, offensive, or false. Treat all output as fiction, not as professional advice (medical, legal, financial, psychological or otherwise) and not as factually reliable.

3. Eligibility — 18+ only

You must be at least 18 years old to use meisan. There is no exception. By creating an account you confirm that you are 18 or older and you provide a date of birth as part of registration. Accounts identified as belonging to a minor will be terminated and the associated data deleted.

You must have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement under the laws of your jurisdiction.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to use meisan to create, request, generate, distribute, store or attempt to elicit any of the following. The list is not exhaustive; the spirit is more important than the letter.

• Child sexual abuse material (CSAM)in any form. This includes sexual content involving anyone described as a minor, anyone described as underage, anyone "aged up" from a younger depiction, or anyone whose described physical characteristics suggest a minor. Zero tolerance. Accounts are terminated and material reported to the relevant authorities (in the UK, the Internet Watch Foundation and the National Crime Agency) where required by law.
• Detailed instructions for self-harm or suicide: specific methods, dosages, sourcing, technique. A character may experience or describe having self-harmed; meisan must not be used to obtain a how-to.
• Harmful depictions of identifiable real people: sexual, violent, defamatory, or threatening content naming or depicting a real public or private individual. This expressly includes "deepfake" content — any text, image, or video that imitates the likeness, voice, or identity of a real person without their consent. meisan must not be used to generate deepfake images or video.
• Non-consensual sexual content: sexual activity with a character who is unwilling, asleep, unconscious, or incapacitated by drugs, alcohol, or hypnosis. Negotiated consensual scenes between adult fictional characters are permitted.
• Incest: sexual content between family members, including step- and adoptive relations.
• Bestiality and animal cruelty: sexual content involving an actual animal. Sapient humanoid fantasy species are not animals for this purpose.
• Sexualized death or lethal violence: snuff, fantasy snuff, necrophilia, or erotic asphyxiation to death.
• Sexual content involving bodily waste (urine or faeces).
• Prostitution and escorting scenarios: sexual content framed as paid sex work or solicitation.
• Polygamy scenarios.
• Hate speech: content degrading a real-world protected group, including slurs used approvingly, supremacist advocacy, or dehumanization.
• Instructions for illegal activity: real, actionable guidance for serious crimes — building weapons or explosives, synthesizing drugs, or attacking a real target.
• Professional advice presented as reliable — medical, legal, financial, psychological, or gambling/handicapping guidance.
• Content promoting or facilitating terrorism, mass violence, or genocide.
• Human trafficking, sex trafficking, or physical abuse: any content or use that promotes, facilitates, advertises, or solicits human trafficking, sex trafficking, the sexual exploitation of any person, or real-world physical abuse. Zero tolerance. meisan prohibits such use, removes offending content, terminates the responsible accounts, and reports credible evidence of trafficking or exploitation to the relevant authorities.
• Content intended to harass, threaten, dox, or extort an identifiable person.
• Content infringing third-party intellectual property rights you do not have permission to use.
• Attempts to bypass safety systems, age verification, geo-restrictions, or rate limits.
• Scraping, automated bulk extraction, or reselling Service output without written permission.
• Any use that violates applicable law in your jurisdiction or in the United Kingdom.

meisan operates safety checks on character descriptions and user inputs to enforce these rules. Detected violations can result in immediate account suspension or termination, without refund.

5. Subscriptions, credits and billing

New accounts receive a one-time allowance of free credits. Beyond that, continued use requires a paid subscription. Subscriptions are sold on a monthly basis and processed by our third-party payment processor, CCBill. Charges appear on your statement under a CCBill billing descriptor (for example "CCBILL.COM*MEISAN"). Prices, credit allowances and tier inclusions are listed on the pricing page and can change with prior notice.

Credits reset on each renewal cycle and do not roll over. Credits have no cash value and are non-transferable. Subscriptions auto-renew until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from the billing portal; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period.

Refunds: outside the statutory 14-day cooling-off period for UK/EU consumers (which is waived for fully consumed digital services as soon as you generate AI responses), payments are non-refundable.

Data wipe on lapse: if your paid subscription ends and is not renewed, your conversation data, memories and uploads are scheduled for deletion 30 days later. Warning emails are sent 7 days, 3 days and 1 day before deletion. Your account and billing records are retained so that you can resubscribe; resubscribing before the deletion date cancels the wipe.

6. Your content

You retain ownership of the prompts, character descriptions, world settings and other text you provide ("User Content"). You retain ownership of the text that AI returns to you ("Output"), to the extent ownership in AI output is legally possible. You grant meisan a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, transmit and display your User Content and Output for the purpose of operating the Service.

meisan does not sell your conversations or memory. We may use de-identified and aggregated content to operate, improve and develop the Service, including its AI features and models. You can opt out anytime in Settings → Data & Privacy or by deleting your account. Pipeline processors (listed in the privacy policy) may briefly process your text to generate replies, governed by their own terms.

You are solely responsible for User Content and Output you generate or share.

7. Safety features

meisan includes optional features that surface support information if the Service detects, with reasonable confidence, that a real human user (not a character in a story) is describing a concrete, immediate plan to seriously harm themselves. This is informational only; meisan is not a crisis service. If you or someone you know is in crisis, contact a qualified professional: in the UK, Samaritans 116 123 or 999 for emergencies; in the US, 988.

meisan provides a reporting mechanism for content that violates these terms, including CSAM, harmful real-person depictions, non-consensual content, and credible threats. Any user can report a response from within the chat. Reports are reviewed and resolved within five (5) business days; content found to be illegal is removed immediately and, where appropriate, reported to the relevant authorities. Reports and complaints, and the actions taken on them, are logged and reported monthly to our payment processor as required by card-network rules.

In addition to user reports, every message is screened by automated safety classifiers before and after generation. These block the prohibited categories in Section 4 — including CSAM, non-consent, incest, bestiality, snuff, and trafficking-related content — so that violating content is never produced or published in the first place.

8. AI disclaimer

AI output is generated by statistical models. It can be wrong, made-up, outdated, biased, or inappropriate. meisan is offered for entertainment. Nothing produced by the Service is medical, legal, financial, psychological, safety, or professional advice. Do not rely on AI output for decisions that affect health, safety, finances, legal rights, or relationships with real people. If a topic matters, verify with a qualified human professional.

9. Geographic restrictions

meisan is not available in jurisdictions subject to UK or relevant international sanctions, including (without limitation) Russia, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Cuba and Belarus. Access from such jurisdictions is blocked. The Operator may decline service or terminate accounts where required to comply with applicable law.

10. Termination

You can delete your account at any time from the account settings page; this removes your personal data subject to the retention periods set out in the privacy policy. meisan may suspend or terminate your access immediately and without refund if you breach these terms, post prohibited content, or otherwise create legal or operational risk. On termination the rights granted to you cease; clauses that by their nature should survive (intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, governing law) survive termination.

11. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Operator disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, uninterrupted availability, and accuracy of output. Nothing in this clause limits any non-excludable statutory rights you have as a consumer under UK law.

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Operator's aggregate liability arising from or relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amounts paid by you to the Operator in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to liability, or (b) GBP 50. The Operator is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages, for lost profits, lost data, or loss of goodwill, even if advised of the possibility. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

13. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold the Operator harmless from any claim, demand, or damages (including reasonable legal fees) arising from User Content you submit, your use of Output, or your breach of these terms.

14. Changes to these terms

These terms can change. Material changes will be announced by email or via an in-app notice at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
